Cruxwing runs as a native Mac app and captures system audio directly — no bot joins your call, and nothing has to be admitted to the meeting. Telling the room that the call is recorded stays your job, the same as with any recorder. Transcription runs on-device by default, so audio never leaves your Mac unless you choose a cloud engine.
First run
- Open the downloaded disk image and drag Cruxwing onto the Applications folder shown beside it. Launch it from Applications — macOS ties Screen Recording and Microphone permissions to the app's location, so an app run from Downloads has to ask for them all over again once it moves.
- Grant Microphone access so your own voice is transcribed.
- Grant Screen Recording access. macOS routes system audio through this permission — it is how Cruxwing hears the other side of the call without a bot. No video is captured or recorded.
- Quit and reopen Cruxwing once after granting Screen Recording. macOS only applies that permission to a fresh launch, and skipping this is the single most common first-run confusion.
On-device by default. The first transcription downloads a local Whisper model, so give it a moment on the first call. You can switch to a cloud engine later in Settings — the app states, for every option, where your audio goes, how accurate it is, how fast, and what it costs.
